After national outrage the #Hathras case has been handed over the CBI and the blockade against the media and opposition from visiting the village of the victim has been lifted. But before that, under the surface, caste tensions have begun to simmer. Emboldened by the claim of a top U.P Police officer that there was no rape, Thakur groups have begun pushing back against Dalits with their own theory of a so-called honour killing. Dalits are now fearful of reprisal and worry that neither truth nor justice will be theirs.
