The Town of Mossyrock Incorporated on January 2, 1948.
Mossyrock Park was created as a day-use camp and park in 1969 on the northern bank of the Riffe Lake reservoir formed by the 1968 completion of the Mossyrock Dam.
Natural naming: The area was named for a large, moss-covered rock formation visible from Klickitat Prairie. The name “Mossy Rock” was used by early settlers and the post office.
Community relocation: When the Mossyrock Dam was completed in 1968 to create the Riffe Lake reservoir, the original town of Mossyrock was submerged.
Park creation: In 1969, a day-use park was proposed and named after the town to provide recreation on the new lake.
