The cable that actuates the drive wheels on this lawn mower has snapped! So today, I'm going to pull that broken cable off and replace it with a new cable. This cable is a specific part that fits this exact machine, it's not a generic fit cable like on a bicycle. It's a pretty quick and easy job you can do with minimal tools and be right back mowing away!
This is a Toro push mower, and the specific tools I needed to do this repair are:
3/8" socket with an extension
7/16" socket or an adjustable wrench
Large flat head screwdriver
A pair of pliers
These are the tools I needed on my specific mower, but your mower may use different tools or different sizes.
To find the exact cable your mower need, you'll need to find your machine's model number, and then search that number on a website like partstree.com or jackssmallengines.com to bring up a parts breakdown diagram. THEN find the cable - the right cable as most mowers will have two. Now you'll have the part number for your exact cable, you can go purchase one and be back in the yard mowing in no time.
