In this follow-up QGIS tutorial on geoprocessing tools, we’ll use the Dissolve and Aggregate tools with the riparian land-cover layer (RipLC2000.shp) from the end of Part I to examine the distribution of different land-cover classes over the entire clip area and by specific watershed. We’ll use the Statistics Panel and Statistics by Categories tools to verify the calculations of the percentage coverage of different land-cover classes added with the Field Calculator. We’ll also explore their application in extracting descriptive statistics on variations in features within text or numeric fields of interest. Follow along as we use additional tools to assess land-cover variations at two separate levels, using the custom feature identifier field (UBasinLCID) from Part I to aggregate the feature geometries and attributes of different classes by watershed.
Additional geoprocessing and buffering tools are demonstrated with other simple use cases at the end of the video to show their diverse applications in integrating feature geometries and attributes of layers. The skills developed in these tutorials can then be extended to combine, overlay and integrate the attributes and geometries from datasets relevant to your own areas of work and expertise to assess their relations, proximities and broader tendencies.
