At major news events in Taiwan, television reporters frequently rush to the scene to give the public live coverage and first-hand accounts. In the past, television reporters relied on satellite news gathering trucks to help them broadcast live news. However, advances in technology have eliminated the need for these trucks as this work can be performed by a single camera. FTV, a media leader in Taiwan, has invested heavily in this new technology, upgrading some 100 cameras to allow for immediate reporting of any news story in Taiwan. From lively dancers in Taipei to flower carnivals in Nantou, and jumping to Kaoshiung where Major League pitcher Chen Wei-ying returns to his alma mater to perform public service, FTV journalists are connected across northern, central and southern Taiwan, delivering news as it happens. The camera can now travel everywhere, as dozens of synchronized audio and video signals travel back to news headquarters. Now, live broadcasts are more convenient than ever, breaking with tradition due to technological innovations.Mary ShiueFTV JournalistThese familiar SNG trucks require a few necessary actions before we undertake a live broadcast. We need to raise the satellite dish, lay cables, and establish a signal.Upgraded cameras contain a 4G transmission module, allowing each camera to perform duties previously carried out by an SNG truck. With their small size and high degree of mobility, these cameras are effective anywhere a wireless network signal is available. With these breakthroughs in communications technology and with high definition video, FTV journalists can cover stories across Taiwan. With one hundred different cameras providing connection points throughout Taiwan, audiences will be served with instantaneous news coverage.
