Minnie Pearl, born Sarah Ophelia Colley Cannon, was a beloved American comedian who became a Grand Ole Opry star. Her signature character was a seemingly single, middle-aged country woman from the fictional town of Grinders Switch, Tennessee. Pearl's comedic style included wearing a hat with a price tag still attached and telling hilarious, self-deprecating stories about her family and her unceasing search for a husband. Her catchphrase, "How-dee! I'm just so proud to be here!", was an iconic part of her act for over 50 years.
