Today, we focus on the discipline of fasting. 2 Chronicles 20 powerfully illustrates the efficacy of fasting and prayer. When King Jehoshaphat faced an overwhelming coalition of enemy armies, his immediate response was to proclaim a fast throughout all of Judah. This act of national humility and dependence on God, coupled with fervent prayer, set the stage for divine intervention. Rather than relying on military might, Jehoshaphat led his people in seeking the Lord, demonstrating that fasting served as a tangible expression of their reliance on God's power. The Lord answered their plea, providing a miraculous victory without Judah having to engage in battle, thereby showcasing the potent connection between fasting, prayer, and divine deliverance.
