Roessel discusses his own work.
Monty Roessel (Navajo), currently the executive director of the Rough Rock Community School on the Navajo Reservation, is also a freelance photojournalist specializing in documenting Navajo life. He has written and photographed two children’s books: “Songs from the Loom” and “Kinaalda’: A Navajo Girl Grows Up.” The former editor of the first Indian daily newspaper, The Navajo Times Today, Roessel’s work has also appeared in such magazines as Time, Newsweek, Arizona Highways, GEO and National Geographic Traveler to name a few. Roessel holds a BA in journalism from the University of Northern Colorado and a MA in photojournalism from Prescott College. He is currently enrolled in a doctoral program in education at Arizona State University.
