Book of Moses The Old Testament Genesis chapter 5

I’ve just finished reading Genesis chapter 5, and right from the start it repeats that God created man “in His likeness.” I still don’t believe this literally. It feels like wording that may have been shaped by human vanity over time. If people think God looks like us, it instantly creates division — different groups imagining God in their own image, and if giants ever existed, they’d be seen as “more godlike.” That sort of thinking would cause the same jealousy and conflict we saw earlier with Cain and Abel.

The chapter then lists the ages of Adam’s descendants, but the numbers don’t sit right with me. The huge lifespans, the timing of when they have children, and the gaps between generations feel like something got lost or changed in translation. And Cain is never mentioned again. Was he truly banished to the land of Nod forever? And where even was Nod supposed to be?

Another point that stands out is when Noah is born, and it says he would bring relief from the land “the Lord had cursed.” It makes me wonder what that curse really was, how it affected everyday life, and why Noah was expected to fix it.

For me, Genesis 5 is meant to show the early human lineage, but instead it raises more questions about translations, symbolism, and how ancient people understood their world. Just sharing my honest thoughts as I continue reading the Old Testament with an open and spiritual mindset.
