This mock news story was written by a friend for his own amusement after New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg had been elected the second time. My friend brought his script to a voice-over artist he knows, handing him the script and a pocket microcassette memo recorder. The V-O man glanced at the script and read it into the recorder in a single take. Handing back the script and recorder, the V-O man said he liked the piece, but if it were ever played publicly, his name must be deleted.
When Mayor Bloomberg and the City Council overturned the two-term limits restriction-- the restriction approved by New York City voters in two separate referenda-- my friend was incensed. When, predictably, Bloomberg announced for a third term, my friend was absolutely furious. He found the cassette, made it into a video, and asked me to post it for him.
I told my friend that my channel is non-political-- except, of course, for what can be gleaned from some of the material I upload. But he cajoled and pestered and I capitulated.
At the end of the piece, he added a clip from a 1957 BBC broadcast of 'The Goon Show'-- the supposed national anthem of an exotic non-democratic country, Yakabagoo. My friend thought it appropriate, now that New York political life has reached Yakabagooian levels.
