Cagney & Lacey was a police drama that aired on CBS for seven seasons, from March 25, 1982, to May 16, 1988. The show starred Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly, who brought incredible depth to their roles as New York City detectives.
The theme song, written by Bill Conti (famous for his Rocky scores), is an absolute powerhouse — opening with a killer sax section lick and blazing alto, likely by David Sanborn or Tom Scott. Add in those screaming trumpets at the bridge, and you’ve got a classic ’80s TV sound at its best. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any confirmed musician credits, but the playing speaks for itself.
