With the recent announcement to fast-track the infill of the new Bribie Island break(s) using sand, I spotted this vessel navigating through the channel. It really highlights how deep and wide the break has become—this is the largest craft I’ve seen pass through it.
It’s definitely a ‘watch this space’ situation as they attempt to close it off, despite the fact I’ve been documenting this erosion for over 18 months. If the break managed to push through sand, vegetation, and even root systems, how effective will just sand be? What’s going to hold it in place against the relentless forces of daily tidal shifts, sea swells, wind, king tides, changing weather, and the constant battering of waves—both small and large—every few seconds?
