In this tutorial, let us see How To Use Resource Leveling In Primavera P6 Professional

Whenever you are running short of any resource in your organization, you can solve the problem of overloading issue by using the resource leveler function in oracle primavera p6 professional.

You know you can reduce or eliminate overloads of resources within or across projects. This can be done based on priorities that you define at the project level or activity level.

This tool is the best one for capacity planning and also to analyse the impact of resource over allocations.
Now, let us see how to use this feature.

First let us see how we can set priorities at project level.

In the Projects view of P6 Professional, right click here and go to columns and select customize.

In the general tab, click on Project Leveling Priority and add it to columns.

This allows you to set a number against a project that indicates its priority for respective project. The lower the number, the higher the priority.

Now let us open this schedule and let us set activity level priorities.
Similarly, right click, click on columns and go to general tab and select Activity leveling priority to add to the visible columns.

Here, The priorities range from Top to Lowest and can be set against activities within the schedule which will guide the leveler whether to move activities, or not.

Once you are done with the setting up of priorities, Click on Resource leveler from the menu bar.

This will run the Level Resources dialog. Here, you can define parameters as per your need.

In the bottom portion of level ling priorities, we are going to level our project using both its project and activity leveling priorities.

Click on Add button, to add each of the required leveling priority fields into the table area and then determine an ascending or descending sort order for each one.

Once you are done with the selection of required options for leveling, click the Level button to start the process.

You will notice that P6 Professional will move activities in order to eliminate or at least reduce the resource overload issue.

In order to maintain the new dates for the schedule going forward, you have to make some more changes.

Go to resource leveler and select the option “Automatically level resources when scheduling” and close this window.

Go to Schedule options and tick the checkbox, “Level resources during scheduling”.

So, this is the best way to use the Resource leveling priorities in primavera p6.
