Meet Our Farmers | Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC

As George W. Vanderbilt began planning Biltmore Estate, he envisioned a self-sustaining working estate and farm. Our Director of Agriculture, Kyle Mayberry, shares Biltmore’s agricultural legacy through a look at Biltmore's West Side, spanning approximately 6,000 acres of agricultural fields, farms, vineyards, and more in the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina.

At the recommendation of landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted, Vanderbilt set aside the acres of rich, rolling land along the French Broad River for raising healthy livestock and growing food for Biltmore House, with surplus produce to be sold in the community.

Biltmore continues to honor that legacy today through the efforts of a highly specialized team of farmers who oversee field-to-table programs and other agricultural initiatives.

This National Historic Landmark remains privately owned and continues to be maintained by George Vanderbilt's descendants.
