The Painted Churches of Texas are a reminder of the architectural achievements of settlers in the late 19th century. These churches are lovely on the outside but blow you away once you open the door and look inside. Fortunately, four of them are clustered together pretty closely so that they are easily seen in a matter of a few hours. Currently the church in Ammannsville (St. John the Baptist) is only open on Monday through Thursday (8 - 5 pm). Therefore, one of those days would be optimum to visit this area.
