Take a closer look at the ambitious new A59 realignment project at Kex Gill, August 2025. This video shows the construction progress of the three-mile (4.8 km) bypass near Blubberhouses, a necessary replacement for the landslip-prone old section of road. The scheme is budgeted at approximately £68.8 million, of which £56.1 million is being supplied by the UK Department for Transport, and the remainder (£12.7 million) by North Yorkshire Council. An extra £11.7 million was added in 2025 to cover unforeseen design changes and challenging ground conditions, bringing the total to about £82.5 million. Expected to open in spring 2026, this major infrastructure project aims to improve safety, reduce road closures, and secure a more reliable route between Harrogate and Skipton.
