"We came across a dog with badly matted fur . It seems he was abandoned a while back and has been foraging to survive. When we first tried to capture rasta, he wouldn't let us touch him, and he wouldn't eat the food we gave him. It was a relief that he changed his policy on both issues after coming to the shelter. The first step was to spend some time on the grooming table, doing nothing, just relaxing, so that he knows he is safe and feels comfortable on the table. We did not use the clippers as rasta complained about the pain. Using scissors only, we worked for about 2 hours, with frequent breaks for both the dog and the groomer. Cutting matted fur is a fiendishly difficult job and if you are not ultra careful the whole time it is very easy to lop off a chunk of skin..."Ken a founder of a local dog rescue group wrote
