Foam Rocks For Model Trains | Hiding The Seams

In our last video we started using pink XPS foam for carving rocks for model trains layouts and dioramas. In this video, we continue along this theme and tackle a pet peeve of mine, that is how to best hide the seams between layers of this foam when creating rocks.

Rock carving in foam can be a lot of fun and more than I would have thought, it can be pretty rewarding. Creating rocks, and then a bigger scene with lots of rocks, I think satisfies the creative urge most of us have.

The seams between the layers of foam sort of take away, even if just a little bit, the suspension of disbelief for me. When I see a model train layout, a diorama or even a shadowbox with scenery, I want to be immersed in it, I want to go there! Obvious visible seams tend to take me out of this experience.

My actual rock carving needs much more time and practice, but I think we can take on the seam issue pretty effectively in short order.
