Cooking Humba (Visayan Adobo) with my Daughter | How to Study Abroad

Humba is the Visayan version of the famous Filipino Pork Adobo. Compared to the traditional adobo, humba is cooked first by searing the pork meat. It is also a bit sweeter and the pork meat is slow-cooked until you have a very soft texture.

My daughter recommended that we cook humba together since she missed eating it. And if there’s any dish that I can easily teach her to prepare her for her college life, then humba is the perfect dish that she can easily cook and remind her of home.

I remember back in my younger years my mom would instill in us the value of cooking. No matter how many failed attempts, and to an extent almost burning our kitchen down, we were never stopped from learning how to cook. So I’m passing the torch to her so she has the needed cooking skills when she can finally live on her own.

I’m sure I’m not the only parent who’s having early separation anxiety just with the thought that your kids will soon have to leave and have their own life. My eldest, she’s been relentless in find opportunities on how to study abroad. We’ve been looking at her options for a year now, Googling and looking at what she can do about it. I’m proud of her for that. It’s something that I didn’t even do when I was her age. So it’s such a joy to share with you our experience and learnings about discovering opportunities on how to study abroad as a Filipino student, and at the same time, share our humble recipe on how to cook humba.
