The appearance of the beautiful planet Venus provides an intimate setting for a rendezvous between lovers. Composers Mary Kawena Pukui and Maddy Lam collaborated on the writing of this well-loved mele, a favorite among generations of hula dancers and musicians. Images of the night sky, the sea whispering on the sand amid great rain and wind are metaphors for bonds rooted in the heart.
