Cedar Ridge softball senior Mia Best discusses signing with Meredith College

Cedar Ridge senior Mia Best officially signed with the Meredith College softball team during a ceremony on Thursday night. Best has been a varsity player since her freshman season where she hit .358 with 19 hits and two home runs. Last season, when Cedar Ridge finished second in the Central Conference, she had a .441 batting average with a career-best 41 hits. She scored 39 runs with 27 RBIs as the Red Wolves reached the 2nd round of the 3A State Playoffs for the first time since 2019. Best has a career batting average of .432 with 95 hits, six home runs and 57 RBIs. As a pitcher, Best has a 10-0 career record with 132 strikeouts. Last season, Best earned the win in the Red Wolves first victory of the season against Chapel Hill, where she drove in three runs. She also struck out nine Tigers over six innings. Best also earned the win against Falls Lake Academy, throwing a complete game with seven strikeouts. At the plate, Best hit two home runs and finished with four RBIs, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Her teammate and best friend, Rylee Capps, spoke at the signing. Mia was accompanied by her mother Brittany along with her grandparents, Tommy and Rebecca Best, as well as Cedar Ridge head softball coach Allen Byrd and assistant Brian Rhew.
