Ukrainian-born and Berlin-based Kateryna Zavoloka, who goes by the stage name Zavoloka, is a blossoming composer, sound artist, performer, and visual artist that devotes herself to orchestrating uncompromising experimental music free from genre-dependent definitions and styles. Her works always stem from a very strong conceptual base, unveiling creations that are more than just music, exhibiting deep artistic research, and combining traditional and mechanical elements to show the boundlessness of her creative freedom.
From performing tantalising live audio-visual sets and partaking in cross-genre art projects, co-running the experimental music labels Kvitnu and Prostir with Dmytro Fedorenko (Kotra), forming a sci-fi techno band with Fedorenko called Cluster Lizard, and being renowned for visual cover art creations and graphic designs, Zavoloka is well and truly making an indelible imprint in the world of music and art.
In 2005 Zavoloka was awarded as Honorary Mention in Digital Music & Sound Art with Prix Ars Electronica for the “Plavyna” album.
Zavoloka’s album “Syngonia” is in the list of 50 Best Ukrainian Albums of the last 10 years by Ukrainian zine SLUKH.
In 2019 Zavoloka’s album “Promeni” was nominated as Best Album in Ukraine by Aprize awards.
Zavoloka performs regularly and her music has been presented in various concert halls, clubs, contemporary art museums, theaters, open-air concerts, festivals: Superbooth20 (DE), Presences Electronique (FR), CTM (DE), MadeiraDig (PT), Unsound New York (USA), Kvitnu Fest (UA), Rewire (NL), and has been invited to support Aphex Twin’s (UK) audiovisual rave shows, etc.
