As a symphonic orchestral theme (in the original film), it's not easy to capture the composer's myriad nuances with just 10 fingers/thumbs, but, having listened to this piece for over 30 years, I'm pretty sure this is the closest I'm going to get!
A (primarily) Jenny Agutter film (directed by Nicholas Roeg) - it traces the story of abandonment (by a suicidal Father) of two siblings... a girl of about 16 and a much younger brother, in Australia's inhospitable outback, where they wander, lost for weeks. An aboriginal boy going through the initiation process of becoming a young man, comes upon them and decides to help.
Together, the three embark on a journey of unintentional and unexpected discovery. A simple premise, but one which has such depth, beauty and psychological implication, it's worth every minute of the remarkable cinematic experience.
Throughout the film John Barry's haunting theme(s).. of which there are several, have become famous... I happen to love this part the most - hence, my recording of it here. Enjoy.
