It’s been a while since our last update. Life has been an adventure in itself since we welcomed our son Miles four years ago, and more recently, our baby girl Siena. Our family also moved to the Netherlands in 2021. While the running hasn’t (completely) stopped, finding the time to film, edit, and post has been a challenge.
Yesterday, I had the chance to run one of the most uniquely Dutch races: the Meeuwen Makrelen Loop (Seagulls and Mackerels Run) in Den Haag. This iconic 16K beach race is as coastal as it gets, with an out-and-back route in 50km/h winds. The outbound stretch is a battle against strong headwinds, where runners literally draft off one another as cyclists do. On the return, the wind at your back feels like flying. Add in rain, chilly temperatures, and the stunning backdrop of the North Sea, and you have an unforgettable experience.
But what really sets this race apart? Instead of medals, finishers are awarded mackerels – a nod to the local fishing heritage. The event had an incredible community vibe despite the challenging conditions, and well definitely be back next year.
The adventures may have evolved, but they’re still going strong ❤️
