Closing | Abschlusswochenende der Europäische Kulturhauptstadt Chemnitz 2025

Nach 315 Tagen Programm verabschiedet Chemnitz das Europäische Kulturhauptstadtjahr mit einem stimmungsvollen Closing - Wochenende.

Am Freitag wurde in Oelsnitz / Erzgebirge die neue permanente und raumumfassende Lichtinstallation „Beyond Horizons 2025“ von James Turrell eröffnet. Die Arbeit des US-amerikanischen Künstlers der glanzvolle Höhepunkt des Kunst- und Skulpturenweges PURPLE PATH, eines der großen Hauptprojekte der Kulturhauptstadt Europas Chemnitz 2025. Der Samstag startete mit einem Programm, dass ganz im Zeichen der beginnenden Weihnachtszeit stand: mit Europäischer Bergparade durch die Innenstadt, Weihnachtssingen auf dem Theaterplatz und die Maker - Advent Weihnachtswerkstatt in der Stadthalle Chemnitz. Der Höhepunkt: die Abschlusshow "Feierabend!", bei der 4.000 Besucher:innen gemeinsam auf das unvergessliches Jahr zurückgeblickt haben.

It's closing time! After 315 days of programming, Chemnitz bids farewell to its year as European Capital of Culture with a spectacular closing weekend. On Friday, James Turrell's new permanent and space-encompassing light installation ‘Beyond Horizons 2025’ was opened in Oelsnitz / Erzgebirge. The work by the American artist is the glittering highlight of the PURPLE PATH art and sculpture trail, one of the major projects of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. Saturday began with a programme dedicated to the start of the Christmas season: a European mountain parade through the city centre, Christmas carol singing on Theaterplatz and the Maker Advent Christmas workshop in Chemnitz City Hall. The highlight was the closing show ‘Feierabend!’, where 4,000 visitors joined the management of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025 gGmbH, to look back on an unforgettable year.
