This amazing tournament action was filmed in 1960 in the first Futenma Soke Dojo of Grand Master Kanei Uechi. The lightning-fast speed and kata based sparring techniques reveal the earliest style of sparring in the Okinawan Uechi Ryu Karate system. Masters Kanei Uechi, Seiyu Shinjo and Seiki Itokazu are seen running the tournament while Shintoku Takara, Shigeru Takamiyagi, Minoru Miyagi, Seiki Irei, and others display the phonemical, cat like, movements of the early Uechi Ryu Karate sparring system
This one-of-a-kind film was given to me in the 1980's by the Shinjo family for historical preservation.
