Stedson "Mountainman" Stroud lives on St. Helena Island, a tiny island in the middle of nowhere. These songs detail some of St. Helena's interesting moments in history.

Song 1 is lighthearted; about Saints and what they like to do for fun!

Songs 2 and 3 are about a time when Saints slept on straw beds and wore bags on their feet in lieu of shoes, which were unaffordable to those working long hours in the flax mills to produce fibre from the imported invasive New Zealand Flax. he has written a description below:

Song 4 is about the first permanent settler of St. Helena; Fernao Lopes, a disgraced soldier who jumped ship to avoid trial in Portugal and settled on Saint Helena alone, becoming something of a legend.

A LOVER OF MOST CULTURAL MUSIC FROM AROUND THE GLOBE WHICH WAS OBTAINED BY HIS
EXTENSIVE TRAVELS AROUND THE WORLD; BY BACK PACKING, OR WORKING HIS WAY.

HE WOULD ALWAY FIND REAL PEOPLE PLAYING THEIR OWN BRAND OF MUSIC, AND VOWED
ONE DAY HE WOULD DO THE SAME - ALTHOUGH HE COULDNT PLAY ANY INSTRUMENTS HE JUST
HAD A GOOD EAR FOR RAW DOWN TO EARTH CULTURAL STUFF.

STEDSON ALWAY LIKED OLD MISSISSIPPI DELTA BLUES, ALSO FOLK, AND GOSPEL SONGS
THAT HE USE TO LISTEN TO AS A YOUNG BOY ON THE BBC WORLD SERVICE ON HIS
BROTHERS TRANSISTER RADIO IN THE EARLY 1960s.

LATELY STEDSON HAD LEARNED TO USE BUSKING INSTRUMENTS, AND NOW PLAYS THE MARTIN
D35 ACOUSTIC GUITAR, SEYDEL, HOHNER, LEE OSKER HARMONICA'S WITH A NECK HOLDER,
FOOT AND LEG TAMBOURINES. HE ALSO USES A BATTERY DRUM MACHINE.

HE NOW ENDEVOURS TO WRITE AND SING HIS OWN SONGS ABOUT THE ISLANDS PEOPLE,
HISTORY , CULTURES - ANCENT AND MODERN.
HE LIVES AS CLOSE TO THE LAND AS HE POSSIBLEY CAN, BACK ON THE ISLAND OF ST
HELENA WHERE HE WAS BORN.

ST HELENA, IS THE TOP OF A LARGE BEAUTIFUL SEA MOUNT THAT IS JUTTING OUT OF THE
SEA, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SOUTH ATLANTIC OCEAN.

LONG BEFORE YOU VISIT.
