Magic Number is One – Three Games to Go
Well, everyone, here we are at game 160, and the Red Sox’s magic number for the playoffs is down to one. Just one game stands between them and a postseason run that all of Red Sox Nation has been eagerly awaiting since 2021. The team doesn’t even need a win; a loss by the Astros, who are on the road in Anaheim, would also secure their spot in the playoffs.
The Red Sox mostly did their job during the Toronto series, with the pitching staff shining, including the bullpen—yes, you read that correctly. I must mention the outstanding performance by our ace, Garrett Crochet, who pitched eight shutout innings. With the playoffs so close, his performance felt especially significant. In game three, Bello was on the mound, and he did his part by keeping the game scoreless for five innings. However, disaster struck later, and the Sox ended up losing 6-1.
With just three games left (thankfully at Fenway) in the regular season, we find ourselves as Red Sox fans on the edge of our seats, anxiously awaiting news about whether we’ll have October baseball. Harrison has the ball tonight, followed by Early on Saturday. As someone who has been waiting for this moment for four years, I hope they give the ball to Crochet on Sunday if a win is still needed. We’ll do whatever it takes to win at this point. In the meantime, buckle up, everyone, and pretend it’s 2004—KEEP THE FAITH!
