This is a comparison of two vintage microphones (omnidirectional Shure 576 and cardioid EV 626A) against a modern EV RE20. We listen to how they sound on acoustic and electric guitar.
Which one do you like best? In the end, these are all great tools for different jobs.
Signal chain for all clips was mic into an Apollo Twin interface into Ableton Live. For the electric guitar recordings the guitar was a Squire Vintage Vibe Jazzmaster into delay pedal into Fender Reverb Deluxe.
The RE20 was recorded at the same time as a direct line channel. The direct signal was used to re-amp through the same signal path and recorded on the Shure 576 and EV 626A.
