Enormously decadent: Hearst Castle - From Dutch Harbor to the Falklands in a Kodiak 100

Leg 15 from Monterey (KMRY) to San Luis Obispo (KSBP). Just a short hop, but with a very interesting sightseeing highlight: Hearst Castle and Beach. Built by William Randolph Hearst, this massive estate with 61 bathrooms(!) kind of epitomizes the early Hollywood era's decadence. Built with immense wealth, the sprawling grounds and varied architecture blending European styles and an extravagant art collection were a showcase of excess in every possible way. Hearst's parties for the Hollywood elite in this castle made it a symbol of the era's flamboyant lifestyles and unchecked spending.

This video is part of a series which covers a new tour called "Pacific Edge" in Flight Simulator 2024. Making use of the MSFS 2024 multiplayer system me and a couple of likeminded virtual pilots follow a route along the western coasts of The Americas. It leads from Unalaska (Dutch Harbor) to the Falklands, covering a distance of a little over 10,000 nautical miles and leading us through pretty much every kind of climate zone Earth has to offer.
