Here's a look at London on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1998. While captured with low resolution consumer video equipment of the time (Hi8mm 640-by 480-pixels) from the top of a bouncy double-decker bus, this nevertheless provides a look at central London 20+ years ago. It became bitterly cold in London late this April day. So cold, in fact, that we witnessed snow beginning to fall in minor and random outbreaks. Also on this day, London tabloids today predicted a Nobel for prime minister Tony Blair after negotiating the Northern Ireland pact. It is announced also today the Kensington Palace State Apartments in London, which include paintings and furniture from the royal collection, are scheduled to reopen May 1 after being closed since September 1997 for renovation. Also starting May 1, the royal ceremonial dress collection, which includes the 1893 wedding dress of Queen Mary and several dresses of Queen Elizabeth II, will be displayed in the palace. Jeremy Beadle, English television host and producer, celebrated his 50th birthday today. Paul Nicholls, English actor, celebrated his 21st birthday on this day.
