Oversand est un des premiers films sur l'escalade libre, troisième film d'une série de trois avec "Overdon" dans le Verdon, et "Over-Ice". Réalisé par Jean-Paul Janssen, le film, très visuel et sans dialogues est tourné en 35mm en Algérie, dans le désert du Sahara, dans région de Tamanrasset, sur les parois des montagnes magnifiques du massif de l'Atakor, sous-région centrale du Hoggar, parfois appelée le « massif central » du Hoggar.

Il s’agit du cœur montagneux du Hoggar, caractérisé par un plateau volcanique de forme presque circulaire, dont l’altitude moyenne est de 2 000 mètres, et qui culmine au mont Tahat (2 908 ou 2 918 m), le point le plus élevé de l'Algérie. L’Atakor se distingue par ses pitons volcaniques spectaculaires, ses aiguilles, et ses paysages très accidentés, issus de l’érosion d’anciennes cheminées volcaniques.

C’est dans l’Atakor que l’on trouve les formations les plus emblématiques du Hoggar, comme l’Assekrem, l’Ilamane, ou les Tizouyag, où sous l'oeil des caravanes de touaregs, évoluent les as de la grimpe francophone de l'époque : Patrick Edlinger, Patrick Bérhault, Bernard Gorgeon, Hugues Jaillet, Jacques Perrier, Stéphane Troussier et Odette Schoënleb.

Oversand is one of the first films about free climbing, the third in a series of three, along with "Overdon" in the Verdon Mountains and "Over-Ice." Directed by Jean-Paul Janssen, the highly visual, dialogue-free film was shot on 35mm film in Algeria, in the Sahara Desert, in the Tamanrasset region, on the magnificent mountain walls of the Atakor Massif, a central sub-region of the Hoggar Mountains, sometimes called the "central massif" of the Hoggar Mountains.

This is the mountainous heart of the Hoggar Mountains, characterized by an almost circular volcanic plateau with an average altitude of 2,000 meters, culminating at Mount Tahat (2,908 or 2,918 meters), the highest point in Algeria. The Atakor Mountains are distinguished by their spectacular volcanic peaks, spires, and rugged landscapes, formed by the erosion of ancient volcanic vents.

It is in the Atakor that we find the most emblematic formations of the Hoggar, such as the Assekrem, the Ilamane, or the Tizouyag, where under the eye of the Tuareg caravans, the aces of French-speaking climbing of the time evolved: Patrick Edlinger, Patrick Bérhault, Bernard Gorgeon, Hugues Jaillet, Jacques Perrier, Stéphane Troussier and Odette Schoënleb.
