Day Trip from Prague: KARLŠTEJN CASTLE AND VILLAGE (4K)

in this video we’ll go out of Prague. We will take you on a journey to Karlštejn Castle and Karlštejn village.
Karlštejn Castle is one of the most iconic landmarks in the Czech Republic.
It's located near Prague in the Czech Republic and is famous for its historical significance, stunning architecture, and picturesque location.
You can reach Karlštejn Castle from Prague by the car, train or bus.
We chose to take the bus from Prague to the village of Mořina, and the train back to Prague as we found it easier this way.
It's quite a steep walk uphill from the train station through the Karlštejn village to the castle, so we found it a bit strenuous.
That was the reason why we took the bus to Mořina. The walk from this village to the castle is very pleasant. You will just follow a quiet road along the blue tourist route until you reach the turnoff to the castle. Than it will be a little bit uphill, but the distance from the turnoff to castle is just about 400 meters, so it's not too bad.
Karlštejn Castle was established in 1348 by Charles IV, the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia. The castle served as his private retreat and a secure place to house royal treasures, particularly holy relics and the Imperial Crown Jewels.
Over centuries, Karlštejn has become a symbol of Czech heritage, and its Gothic architecture is truly attractive.
The castle houses the famous Chapel of the Holy Cross, adorned with a unique collection of 14th-century wall paintings and an extraordinary set of 129 panel paintings by Master Theodoric, representing saints and prophets.
Perched on a hill overlooking the Berounka River, the castle’s location made it a stronghold as well as a stunning visual landmark.
Today, the castle draws tourists from around the world, offering guided tours, cultural events, and breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
From the castle's vantage points, you’re treated to breathtaking views of the Berounka River valley and the charming village below.
About the Well tower:
The well at Karlštejn is unusual because it doesn’t reach a natural water source. Instead, it relies on a clever hydraulic system that draws water from a nearby stream, located far below the castle.
Legend has it that this design was kept a closely guarded secret, and the castle’s builders were sworn to silence. To ensure no word of the well’s design leaked, it is said that the master builder and workers were executed after completing their work.
