Get the Backstory of the

On the #Westbrook Town Green, stands a historical building with one goal: preserving the #history of Westbrook. For 59 years, members of the Westbrook #community have come together to promote, sustain, and acquire historical artifacts. Westbrook has changed rapidly with buildings being demolished instead of being renovated. With the few members of the Historical Society, they seek new members to help accomplish their goal.

This film was made by Matthew Izzo as part of a 2023 filmmaking camp hosted by Flip the Lens and Valley Shore Community TV in Westbrook, CT. Matthew is a #student at Westbrook High School who is going into his Junior Year. He is an emerging #filmmaker and contributor to the Valley Shore Community Television. He seeks to listen to people who may not have the opportunity to tell their #stories. He seeks to give them that chance.

At a time of unprecedented negativity, Flip the Lens (FTL) is a platform for positive short videos that celebrate our #humanity and #culture. We publish videos created by regular people who happen to have an interest in what it means to be human. We believe if you have a phone, you are a filmmaker!

FTL is for anyone who wants to be part of a movement to shine a light on what is good about people, culture, and what we share in common. If that describes you, we feature videos in four genres: Short video interviews, Mini documentaries, Video slide shows that feature cultural landscapes, and Video Point of View essays on some dimension of what it means to be #human.
