One day wall cruising in my 1989 44' DeFever Offshore Cruiser, my 30 year old Westerbeke 12.5btd generator stopped producing electricity. Upon, investigation, I discovered that the main bearing failed and caused major armature and stator windings damage, which necessitated a back-end rebuild. I show you how to remove the back end of the generator from the main engine block, and then how I put it back on. You will learn some tidbits in relation to what not to do, and what to pay attention to and look out for. I also disclose the cost for having the armature and stator rebuilt by a reputable company, Broward Armature, located in South Florida. If you are handy and up for saving some money and learning a thing or two, you can do it! It takes about a day to remove the back end, and a day to put it back on. Luckily, it only took Broward Armature 3 days to perform the rebuild.
