There's so much history along our waterways and today we’re going to travel back in time on our jet ski.
The year is 1897 and the Moreton Central Sugar Mill has just opened. European settlers are developing farming land nearby to supply the mill with sugar cane. But cultivating the land and growing the cane is just half the battle, getting all the harvested sugar cane to the mill proves much harder.
It proposed that a tramway be built to connect all the surrounding farms to the mill. For economy a 2 foot gauge is chosen and work begins. At first the wagons would be pulled by horses but later a steam engine would be used.
Despite the magnitude of the task the rail network quickly expands but connecting farms on the other side of the river proves more challenging.
Several bridges have to be made in strategic locations to cross the river but these areas are remote and surrounded by thick mangroves. Let's see what we can find!
