“The Dictator Speech” (Hindi) | Acting Monologue by Shreya Ambastha

This is one of the most powerful pieces I’ve ever performed. It’s the Hindi translation of Charlie Chaplin’s iconic Dictator Speech from The Great Dictator, and delivering it was an emotional journey for me.
Through this monologue, I’ve tried to channel the pain, urgency, and hope that Chaplin conveyed—speaking out against hate, dictatorship, and division, while calling for unity, compassion, and humanity. These words may be old, but they feel more relevant than ever in today’s world.
As an actor in training, I’m constantly seeking stories and characters that challenge me—and this speech did exactly that. I hope it moves you the way it moved me.
