Asciano is positioned in the very earth of the Crete senesi region, surrounding by amazing landscapes. according to the legend Asciano was founded by Asciano, son of Remo, brother of Romolo, the founder of Rome. IT was an Etruscan centre and it reached the golden age during the Medieval time. It's super rich in both art and history, with two distinguished museums, the Museo Palazzo Corboli and the Museo Cassioli.
Also, you can see part of the Via Lauretana, an Etruscan-Roman that linked Cortona to Montepulciano and Siena. During the Medieval period it was used by pilgrims going to the Holy House of Loreto.
