Moore was ranked 29th in Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. Rolling Stones' lead guitarist Keith Richards said of Moore, "Everyone else wanted to be Elvis, I wanted to be Scotty."
