Outlining what proteins are, their primary, secondary and tertiary structures and how they are formed by the condensation polymerisation of amino acids.
Proteins are the building blocks of life, playing crucial roles in various biological processes. But what exactly are proteins? We will learn how amino acids, the individual units of proteins, come together in a specific sequence to form a unique chain.
We will explore the folding patterns that emerge within protein chains - the formation of alpha helices and beta sheets, and understand how these structures contribute to the overall shape and stability of proteins. Before looking at the intricate three-dimensional arrangements that proteins adopt, giving their functional complexity.
For AQA, OCR (A), Edexcel and CIE.
