The morning after returning to Irkutsk from Olkhon Island, we visited Listkaviyan Hill on the northwest shore of Lake Baikal, where we visited the Log House Museum and the Lake Baikal Museum. We then had lunch at the Legend Hotel Baikal, situated on the shores of Lake Baikal and the Angara River estuary. The hotel's proximity to the lake's estuary afforded breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and lakes. The lake flowed from the left, facing the sun, to the right/north, towards distant Siberia. The clear water blended seamlessly with the blue sky, and the sun, shone warmly through bands of clouds. After lunch, we took a ski lift to the Chersky Mountain Observation Deck behind the town for panoramic views of Lake Baikal and the Angara River estuary.

The Angara River, located southeast of Irkutsk, Russia, was known as the Angara River during the Yuan Dynasty in China. It flows through Irkutsk Oblast and Krasnoyarsk Krai in southeastern Russia. It is the only river flowing out of Lake Baikal and one of the Yenisei River's largest tributaries. Its lower reaches are known as the Upper Tunguska River. The Angara River's left bank tributaries include the Taseeva, Irkut, Oka, and Kova Rivers, while its right bank includes the Ilim and Chadobets Rivers.

After flowing out of Lake Baikal, the Angara River flows northward before turning west, flowing through the southern part of the Central Siberian Plateau and emptying into the Yenisei River near the village of Strelka. The river is 1,779 kilometers long and has a drainage area of ​​1.04 million square kilometers. It boasts numerous rapids and shoals, and is rich in hydropower resources. The average annual flow at the source is 1,920 cubic meters per second, while at the mouth it is 5,100 cubic meters per second. The Irkutsk, Bratsk, Ust-Ilimsk, and Boguchany reservoirs and hydropower stations are located on the main stream and its tributaries. Navigable waters extend from Lake Baikal to the Bratsk and Ust-Ilimsk reservoir dams upstream, and from Boguchany to the river's mouth downstream. The ice cover lasts for about six months (from November upstream and from the end of October to May of the following year downstream). Major catches include sturgeon, beluga sturgeon, burbot, and salmon.
