Slip N Slide Records, using the ever-competent production skills of Greg Street, put together a 21-track compilation of rap stars titled Six O'Clock and released it in October 2001. Street, a fierce hip-hop-style DJ for radio station WVEE V-103 in Atlanta, preceded the album with a single, "Thug Like Me," in July 2001. Six O'Clock, in which Street shared the executive producer's hat with Ted Lucas, provides nonstop rap by those who have proven they know how to rap and by newcomers to the arena who also have a talent.
Jermaine Dupri, highly respected as a producer of R&B and rap, put his talents with Tigah to rap "Somebody Better Tell 'Em." Ludacris (the first artist whom Def Jam Recordings signed on) raps a one-minute version of "Beat Box"; Trina and Deuce Poppi (of Slip N Slide Records) come on with their single "Thug Like Me." Relying on the talents of Trick Daddy rapping in his version of ghetto slang from the street life of Miami's Liberty City to longtime favorites like Erick Sermon, Street also sandwiched in newer talents such as Big Bali and the Wreck Shop Krew, which featured Z-Ro, Big Mo, Ronnie Spencer, and D. Gotti.
