A superb walk in the Eastern Lake District up to three Wainwright Fells, St Sunday Crag, Birks & Arnison Crag
The walk starts in the village of Patterdale taking the path starting directly behind the Patterdale Hotel. We then follow the path which runs beside a wall up to the first summit of the day, Arnison Crag (433m). After enjoying the spectacular views from Arnison Crag we re -trace our steps off the summit and continue on the path up to Birks & St Sunday Crag. There is a really nice ridge walk along a grassy path before climbing steeply beside an old wall up to the second summit of the day, Birks (622m). The summit is marked by small cairn. From Birks the path continues up, first passing through some rocky sections with the final section leading to the summit of St Sunday Crag being a clear path marked by cairns. The views from the St Sunday Crag and the walk up are stunning. We then re-trace our steps off the summit of St Sunday Crag to pick up the return path. The path down is clear all the way, and has spectacular views looking down to the Grisedale Valley and over to Ullswater.
