Parenthood (1989) - A Boy Needs a Man Around (Keanu Reeves, Dianne Wiest)

Helen (Dianne Wiest) faces challenges as a single mother raising her son, Garry (teenaged Joaquin Phoenix), while he is adapting to the corollary of puberty and adolescence without a father figure around to explain a thing or two. His new brother in law, Tod (Keanu Reeves), voluntarily steps in as a middleman, and as someone to talk to for both Garry and Helen. After a "man-to-man" with Garry, Tod discusses the issue at hand with Helen.
