Who's the Real G? | Eazy-E - It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa (1993)

Eazy-E closed out the 1980s as the founder of a thriving Ruthless Records and the head of a gangsta rap revolution. But a few years into the 1990s, he was now being battered by negative press due to certain ideological stances, upstaged by a rival company, and artistically outpaced by his former comrades. One of such former comrades, Dr. Dre, became Eazy-E’s most formidable rival when he released his groundbreaking 1992 album THE CHRONIC, complete with a diss record (“Dre Day”) against him that became a Top 10 crossover hit.

Revamping his resources and street alliances, Eazy-E issued his IT’S ON (DR. DRE) 187UM KILLA EP in 1993 to help repair his reputation. More specifically, one of the EP’s cuts, an earlier-released single entitled “Real Compton City G’s,” attempted to vanquish a co-innovator of gangsta rap who, unlike himself, wasn’t quite what he was making himself out to be.
