In this comedy Classic TV Double Feature, we're showcasing two of Jackie Gleason's most notable recurring sketches: "The Honeymooners" and "Reggie Van Gleason III."
In this 1952 installment of "The Honeymooners," Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason) has fallen ill and simply can't bear it so he seeks his Alice's (Audrey Meadows) care. Art Carney and Joyce Randolph also appear as Ed and Trixie Norton.
The second sketch, which aired in 1953, features the character Reggie Van Gleason III, who is known as Jackie Gleason's favorite character creation. Plagued with arrogance and distaste for his surroundings, Reggie's family forces him to go out and get a job where he lands a role on a TV show as a detective.
Along with THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW, 1952-53 were pivitol years in television, with other popular shows being I LOVE LUCY, ARTHUR GODFREY'S TALENT SCOUTS and THE COLGATE COMEDY HOUR. The United States saw the presidency transition from Harry Truman to Dwight Eisenhower, Duncan Hines cake mix cost 29 cents and the most popular movies were ANGEL FACE and PETER PAN.
