Jeremiah 2:4-13 and Psalm 81:1, 10-16; Sirach 10:12-18 or Proverbs 25:6-7 and Psalm 112; Hebrews 13:1-8, 15-16; Luke 14:1, 7-14
Vandagriff reflects on Jesus' comments about places of honor at a banquet table. Vandagriff sums it up as, "Jesus' sage advice for dinner parties." Jesus advises that we "sit at a place where others would not want to sit and then the host might see you there and move you to a better seat." Vandagriff continues: "One can almost see Matthew the Tax Collector when Jesus spoke this parable going,'That’s a solid business strategy right there. I’m going to start doing that. I mean if the host moves you to a better place imagine the street credibility that provides.'"
Rev. Dr. Matthew Vandagriff is the senior pastor of Kirkwood Baptist Church in Kirkwood, Missouri. He holds a bachelor's degree from Mississippi College, a master of divinity from Truett Seminary at Baylor University, and a doctorate in ministry, also from Truett.
