Our youngest child's room got too maize and navy blue so I decided to break them up a little bit .I kept those two colors but added another shade of blue ,a very light baby blue, i believe was called pool and a cool peacock color.
We initially bought this stand at a local furniture shop already painted white. I quickly gave it a base color all over using the lighter blue, just one of the colors i was going to use on that piece.I used something similar to pour technique on the top by dripping all colors and then tilting the stand for the colors to spread and create different effects, i did not use any pouring mediums like i have on some of my canvases, i only "thinnered" the paint with water, about 20% paint to 80% water ,i kept adding paint by just letting it drip off my brush till i was happy with the effects and colors, i also used a mist bottle full of water to help the paint spread where i needed it to, i did not use too much paint, i let the excess paint drip off the edges and dry for good 24 hours before moving onto the sides. It was a pretty fun but messy project so i used a lot of plastic drip cloth to protect floors, etc. On the sides of the stand i used dripping technique by just pressing my brush against the furniture and let it drip, mist bottle worked great to help the paint spread. I simply blended all of the colors on the inside of the stand and kept the yellow out.My piece was very dry before I sealed it, I used clear wax on the inside and a pretty durable glossy sealer on the outside, gloss deepened all of the colors, made the piece even brighter.
