Five things you might not have known about Native American Veterans:
Though they are the smallest population in our country - American Indians have an enlistment rate ratio approximately 3 times higher than any other race into the Armed Services.
In 1942 -- 99% of all eligible Native American males 21-44 registered for the draft and 40% more Native Americans enlisted than were drafted
Lt. Emest Childers (Creek), Lt. Jack Montgomery (Cherokee), and Lt. Van Barfoot (Choctaw) all of the 45th "Thunderbird" Infantry Division, were awarded Medals of Honor in Europe.
The Navajo Code Talkers were special code speaking units -- they were the only battlefield codes never to have been broken
According to War dept. officials -- if the entire population enlisted at the same proportion as Native Americans, Selective Service would be unnecessary
