Lens Recall PRIOR to completing her 2nd Eye! Envy vs Odyssey Lens Comparison

Recently, B&L announced a voluntary recall on their Envy Trifocal Lens, as well as other lenses they produce like the Aspire. The reason for the recall is that they want to investigate whether or not their recently manufactured lenses have anything to do with the recently reported cases of TASS (toxic anterior segment syndrome) in the United States. TASS can occur after any intraocular surgery. It's a sterile, but severe inflammatory reaction in the first day or two after surgery. Some doctors across the USA have reported TASS following implantation of the Envy Lens. According to my local B&L Rep, he said the incidence was less than 0.1%. Given how common cataract surgery is, B&L decided to investigate the issue. As of this post, they did not find a cause of the TASS, so they will be hiring a 3rd party to conduct an investigation. Until then, all their Envy and Aspire lenses are on hold. It may turn out that some of their lenses caused TASS. It may also turn out that their lenses had nothing to do with it, and it was rather caused by residue from the sterilization process of other surgical instruments. Fortunately none of my patients experienced TASS after Envy or Aspire implantation. I believe that at some point the lenses will be back on the market, but I'm not sure when. This patient underwent cataract surgery with Envy implantation, and was very happy with the results. However before we could perform her second eye's surgery, Envy was removed from the market. She really wanted the Envy in her second eye, but we did not know for sure IF and WHEN the Envy would be available again. In this video, I share what we ultimately did for her. She will share her experience, and we will compare the vision with her two eyes.
